August Love Note

Phew! July is finally over!

What a month it has been. The intense energies of two eclipses and lots of planets in retrograde have certainly made their presence known. Thankfully the wild emotional wave has ceased and we can take a big sigh of relief.

As we head into this fresh new lunar cycle and the month of August, we are greeted with the fiery, creative and generous energy of Leo. The sign ruled by our magnificent sun. This feisty lion brings forth immense possibility and lots of solar energy for us to bask in. 

Through the course of this year we have been asked to do lots of deep soul work, peeling back the layers and sitting with our shadow. We’ve discussed and practiced a lot about vichara in class; the practice of self-enquiry and learning to embrace our authenticity.

After all of this self-work the energy of Leo is very welcome. It is time now to put all that practice into great use; to remember our true essence and shine that radiant light out into the world for all to see.

I look forward to walking this path with you through the coming month and embodying the beautiful optimistic energies that are being served for us.

As the energies of Leo begin to rise under this new moon, state this affirmation daily to yourself. Remember your true essence of who you actually are. You are light!

 Aroma: Essential Oils for Leo

This month I invite you to play with your oils and come up with your own diffuser blend.

For the positive and generous energy of Leo I would use the beautiful citrus oils of wild orange, lemon, tangerine and grapefruit to uplift, inspire and radiate sunshine.

Use oils that light you up and make your heart burst with joy.

Have a go, trust your intuition & be brave!

Practice: Sitali or Sitkari Pranayama

Sitali and sitkari are the wonderful breathing techniques that help our bodies to cool down, which with all this hot weather we are currently experiencing is a rather handy tool to have in your yoga kit bag.

This technique is not only saved for hot summer days but also for hot emotions. When anger or frustration builds up within our bodies, sitali and sitkari have got your back!

Sitali



1. Sit in a comfortable position.

2. Roll your tongue into a ‘u’ shape, with the tip just outside of the lips.

3. Inhale deeply through the rolled tongue and exhale through the nose.

4. Continue for 3 minutes.

5. Allow the breaths to be slow and long.


Sitkari



Can’t roll your tongue? Then sitkari is the practice for you.

1. Sit in a comfortable position.

2. Gently press upper and lower teeth together and open your lips as wide as is comfortable.

3. Inhale deeply through the teeth and then close the lips exhaling through the nose.

4. Continue for 3 minutes with slow & long breaths.
